English Champions Manchester City and Atletico Madrid have finally agreed term of payment, as a Julian Alvarez move to Atleti edges closer.
The Citizens have agreed a deal that could go up to 95-million euros if all bonuses and add-ons are met. Atletico will initially pay 75-million euros. After reaching an agreement with Manchester City, Atletico executives are negotiating personal terms with Julian Alvarez and his entourage. Alvarez's transfer to Los Colchoneros is set to become City's record sale.
The 24-year-old Argentinian joined Manchester City from River Plate for an initian 14-million pounds in the summer of 2022. Alvarez went on to make 103 appearances for the Citizens over a two-season span. He also scored 36 goals and assisted a further 13 goals. Julian Alvarez was a key part of Manchester City’s back-to-back title triumphs during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. He also played a crucial role in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup win.
Julian Alvarez will be a big miss for Pep Guardiola and City, as he became one of City’s most dependable players last season. However, one manager’s loss is another manager’s gain, and Atleti head coach Diego Simeone will be delighted with this signing. Los Colchoneros have finally found their long-term solution to their striker problems. However, Atletico aren’t done with their transfer business this summer.
Atletico Madrid signing Julian Alvarez would open the door for Samu Omorodion’s move to Chelsea. The 20-year-old Spanish striker, who scored eight goals last season for Alaves, will move to Chelsea for a reported 35-million-pound fee. The Blues have already agreed terms with Omorodion. The Spanish striker will join Chelsea on a 7-year contract.
Chelsea’s acquisition of Omorodion would mean that they are effectively out of the race for Victor Osimhen’s signature. Furthermore, Omorodion’s move will also make way for Romelu Lukaku’s move to Napoli.
Apart from that, Atletico Madrid have also agreed a deal worth 40-million euros with Chelsea for Conor Gallagher. The English midfielder will join Los Colchoneros on a 5-year contract. Atletico pipped to unnamed English club to Gallagher signatures, as the 24-year-old midfielder only wanted a move to the Spanish giants. With the signing of Gallagher and Alvarez, Atletico Madrid have laid down a marker for the upcoming La Liga season. They will surely be in the mix for another La Liga title come May.
