Suryakumar Yadav on his Equation with Gautam Gambhir

Suryakumar Yadav talks about his coordination with the Indian Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir.

It looks like the fresh and new era of cricket talent is around the corner. There are a lot of changes in the Indian cricket team – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have retired from the T20I cricket.

Rahul Dravid has also changed his career trajectory and is no longer the head coach. Gautam Gambhir replaced him and simultaneously, Suryakumar Yadav was replaced as the T20I captain for the upcoming India Tour of Sri Lanka 2024.

To get better results, and lead the team to higher standards, it is important to have coordination among Suryakumar and Gautam Gambhir.

Just a day before the tour, Suryakumar opened up about his equation with the head coach, Gautam Gambhir. Here's what the Indian captain said about Gautam Gambhir in a video shared by BCCI-

"This relationship (with Gambhir) is very special because when I went in IPL 2014, I played under him for KKR. It was special because I got the opportunity to play for that franchise. My relationship is still strong with him. But he knows how I work, what my mindset is when I come to practice with him, and how he tries to work. as a coach it is all about that lovely relationship we have and very excited to see how it goes forward,"

Seems like a “lovely relationship”, which is highly essential for the team. Talking about Gautam’s leadership style, here’s what Suryakumar said-

"I think the most important thing I have learnt from this sport is how humble you are after achieving something or even after when you are not doing well. That is one thing that I have learned. When you do something on the ground, you have to leave it on the ground and when you go off the field, that is it. This is not your life. It is just part of your life. So you cannot be... When you are doing well, you stay on the top and when you're not doing well, you are underground. That is one thing which I feel you should not do as a sportsman,"

Relationship Goes Back to IPL 2024

Both Suryakumar and Gautam Gambhir are part of the same team – Kolkata Knight Riders. Suryakumar showcased exceptional performance under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir.

In over 54 matches, Suryakumar played from 2014 to 2017 and scored 608 runs at an average rate of 22.52. This is Gautam Gambhir’s first assignment as the head coach and Suryakumar has the chance to make his mark as a captain.
