Sunrisers Hyderabad Marks History in the Indian Premier League

What is special about the 8th contest of the Indian Premier League 2024? Sunrisers Hyderabad did what has never happened in any one of the entire IPL league.

The contest between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians has made its place in the history of IPL. SRH did what RCB did in 2013. True cricket enthusiasts must have witnessed the action but for those who missed it, let’s introduce you to a new mark in history.

Sunrisers Hyderabad records the highest total in the IPL history. The team scored a giant (277/3) against Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

First Innings

Winning the toss, MI decided to field first, which was a fair decision considering the pitch conditions. SRH had to bat first, at first the game seemed like a regular cricketing contest. The first wicket fell at (4.1), Hardik Pandya dismissed Mayank Agarwal at (11 off 13) balls.

What led after this wicket was a pile of problems for MI. The batters had decided not to stop until they could score the highest, which happened certainly.

Head and Abhishek were at their highest performance level. The difference between the fall of the first and second wicket was (3.4), but what’s astonishing was the difference in the runs scored in these (3.4) overs.

SRH batters, Head and Abhishek added (68 off 22) balls. Head lost his wicket at (7.5) with (113/2), scoring (62 off 24) balls. SRH was at (161/3) when Chawla dismissed Abhishek. He scored (63 off 23) balls. Both batters were nothing less than machine guns, with strike rates of (258.33 & 273.91) respectively.

The team couldn’t have left a target score of (278) if Markram and Klassen hadn’t scored runs in the last overs of the innings. Both scored (42 off 28) and (80 off 34) balls respectively.

The reason why SRH was able to score countless runs is the poor MI bowling. Only Hardik, Gerald, and Chawla could take one wicket each.

Second Innings

What MI had to chase was a giant score of (278) runs in just (120) balls, the required run rate was (13.9). MI started well, each batsman put their contribution to reach the target but it was not enough.

Everything was progressing well for the Mumbai Indians, but soon Ishan was dismissed in (3.2) overs, scoring (34 off 13) balls. Soon in the (4.3) over, Rohit Sharma lost his wicket leaving the team at (66/2).

MI needed somebody to score runs, preserve wickets and gradually reach towards the target. Naman did score some runs but he didn’t turn out to be the one MI needed. It was Tilak Verma, the batsman who scored (64 off 34) balls by putting in the best effort.

After his dismissal, Tim David tried hard to take control of the match and lead the team towards the target. Just before the last over, it got established that SRH had won the match. Eventually, Hyderabad won the match by (31) runs.
