RCB W Qualifies for the Eliminator Match - WPL 2024

Tables turned! Royal Challengers Bangalore W defeated Mumbai Indians W in the 19th match of the Women’s Premier League 2024 to qualify for the eliminator match.

Winning the toss and choosing to bowl first was quite unexpected on this pitch at Arun Jaitley Stadium. The stats state that the team batting first has won the previous matches. But the Captain’s (Smriti) turned out to be a wise one.

It was perfect for the Royal Challengers Bangalore W or a bad one for Mumbai, either of them is right. Batting first, Mumbai Indians W could only score (113) runs, their lowest in WPL 2024.

Mumbai Indians W got whitewashed in the (19th) over. None of the batting performance was commendable.

Class Bowling by Ellyse Perry

Ellyse Perry is one of the crucial reasons why MI W failed badly. Perry took (6) wickets, giving away just (15) runs, and achieved an economy rate of (3.80). Perry eliminated the top batters of Mumbai - Sajana, Nat, Harmanpreet, Amelia, Amanjot, and Pooja.

2nd Innings Scenario

Even Mumbai Indians W didn’t want to back down, their effort worked till the fall of the second wicket (Sophie). MI W was able to take the first two wickets before the (5th) over. Smriti scored (11) and Sophie scored (9) runs.

RCB W’s boat was drowning till Ellyse Perry took charge and sailed the boat to the shore. Richa was a great assistance to Perry. Both scored much-needed runs for the team. Perry scored (40) and Richa scored (36) runs.

RCB W was able to finish the game in the (15th) over at the loss of (3) wickets.

We’re Glad!

We are truly glad that our match prediction was not right. We had placed bets on MI W, but RCB W defeated the odds and secured their position in the top three.

After missing out on the playoffs in the first season, RCB made amends this year with a resounding victory over the holders, Mumbai Indians.

The RCB W Captain, Smriti Mandhana, has stated that following a disappointing first season in the WPL, the squad has worked very hard behind the scenes.

"We couldn't step up and play the cricket we wanted to play [last year]," she said. "But yeah, last year, a lot of thoughts went into this. A lot of hard work behind the scenes, not only from my side but all the support staff, and the RCB management. For them to show their faith in all of us was just amazing.”
