With the BCCI expanding its search to find a successor for the outgoing Secretary Jay Shah, multiple candidates have surfaced. However, Rohan Jaitley is seen as the clear frontrunner for the soon-to-be-vacant position.
Multiple news outlets have reported that Rohan Jaitley, son of former cabinet minister Arun Jaitley, remains the prime candidate to replace Jay Shah. Shah is on the verge of filing his nomination for the post of ICC Chairman. With the support of ECB (English Cricket Board) and ACB (Australian Cricket Board), Jay Shah is the odds-on favorite to replace outgoing ICC Chairman, Greg Barclay.
According to a report in Dainik Bhaskar, there’s a growing agreement within BCCI that Rohan Jaitley is the best replacement for Jay Shah. However, Rohan, who’s the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association President, has dismissed that he might be in line to become the next Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary if Jay Shah is elected as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman. According to an IANS Report, Jaitley has emphasized that his main priority is to promote the Delhi Premier League (DPL). Rohan Jaitley’s dismissal further adds to the uncertainty as to who would succeed Jay Shah as the BCCI Secretary.
In a recent PTI report, former CAB president Avishek Dalmiya was highlighted as a potential candidate to replace Jay Shah as BCCI Secretary. Other young officials from state units have also entered the conversation, including Punjab's Dilsher Khanna, Goa's Vipul Phadke, and Chhattisgarh's Prabhtej Bhatia, who previously served on the IPL Governing Council.
However, a former BCCI Secretary mentioned that there's a slight chance a completely new face could step in as the next Secretary. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he said, “Obviously, it can happen as there are no hard and fast rules... There are people who have been in the system and someone just coming and bypassing them normally doesn't happen.” The question of who will succeed Jay Shah as BCCI Secretary remains unanswered. However, whoever steps into the role will face a significant challenge, especially following India's Men’s T20 World Cup victory under Shah's leadership.
