Oman is one of the few emerging cricket nations and they are ready with their 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024.
There is a change in the plan, the Oman Cricket Board may have decided to change the captaincy to bring in a fresh leader. The captaincy has been changed from the experienced all-rounder Zeeshan Maqsood to Aqib Ilyas. But you can expect major changes in the entire squad, they are the usual ones.
Jatinder Singh and Samay Shrivastav are not in the team but surely are a part of the reserve squad. Oman will be playing in Group B against last year's champions England, Australia, Scotland, and Namibia.
Oman will first appear in Namibia vs Oman, 3rd Match on June 3rd.
Here’s the complete squad - Aqib Ilyas (c), Zeeshan Maqsood, Kashyap Prajapati, Pratik Athavale (wk), Ayaan Khan, Shoaib Khan, Mohammad Nadeem, Naseem Khushi (wk), Mehran Khan, Bilal Khan, Rafiullah, Kaleemullah, Fayyaz Butt, Shakeel Ahmad, Khalid Kail. Reserves: Jatinder Singh, Samay Shrivastava, Sufyan Mehmood, Jay Odedra.
Spearheading Oman's bowling attack is the ever-reliable Bilal Khan, a left-arm yorker specialist renowned for his accuracy and ability to stifle opposition batsmen in the death overs. His experience will be invaluable in guiding the younger bowlers.
Supporting Khan is a talented group of pacers who have consistently impressed. Kaleemullah's pace and swing can be a handful for any batsman, while Fayyaz Butt offers a different angle with his right-arm medium pace. Both bowlers have a proven track record of taking wickets in crucial moments.
Adding a vital layer of variety to the attack is the left-arm orthodox spinner, Shakeel Ahmad. While a relative newcomer to the national team, Shakeel has quickly established himself as a wicket-taking threat with his control and deceptive spin.
Together, Shakeel forms a potent spin trio alongside established all-rounders Aqib Ilyas and Zeeshan Maqsood. This combination provides Oman with a well-rounded bowling attack capable of adapting to different conditions and applying pressure on the opposition throughout the innings.
