Mohammed Shami got to be a part of the 2023 ICC World Cup and played the final match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad which the latter side won. It was a great tournament for Shami and there was an improvement in Mohammed Shami's stats.
Shami took 24 wickets in 7 matches at the average and economy rate of 10.70 and 5.26 respectively. Shami achieved the best figure of 7/57 against New Zealand in the semifinal.
Shami suffered an injury in the tournament, hurting his Achilles tendon but it didn’t thrash his spirits. He played the tournament bearing the nerve-wracking pain and showcasing exceptional performance.
Mohammed had to miss out on the India Tour of South Africa and the three-match series against Afghanistan in January. For recovering from the injury, Shami had to miss the 2024 Indian Premier League.
Out of all the contests that Shami missed, the 2024 T20 World Cup was the most crucial one as India won the match and ended the long haul of thirteen years after beating the Proteas in the final.
