India’s 5th Consecutive Win in the ICC T20I World Cup 2024

Men in Blue are winning every match in the T20 World Cup 2024. For the 5th consecutive win, India defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs.

In the latest contest against Bangladesh, India registers their 5th consecutive win in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Placed in Group A, the Proteas have been indispensable in the tournament so far.

On 22nd June, India confronted Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua and won the match by 50 runs.

First Innings

Winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to field first.

India had a good start. Virat Kohli presented a satisfactory opening batting by scoring 37 runs off 28 balls, hitting 1 four and 3 sixes at the strike rate of 132.14.

Rohit Sharma walked shoulder to shoulder with Kohli till the 3.4 over. Shakib took Rohit and India’s first wicket at 39/1.

Soon in the 8.1 over, Kohli was dismissed by Tanzim. Then Suryakumar fell prey to Tanzim’s bowling in the 8.3 over. Suryakumar couldn’t showcase his magic like he did against Afghanistan in the last contest.

Rishabh Pant took things in hand and added 36 runs to the scoreboard.

When India needed a strong partnership, Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya were there to deliver. The duo scored 84 runs, Shivam scored 34 runs off 24 deliveries, whereas Hardik Pandya, the Player of the Match scored an essential half-century for the team in just 27 balls at the strike rate of 185.19.

Eventually, India left 196 runs for Bangladesh to chase.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib took 2 wickets, dismissing Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav at the economy rate of 8.00. Rishad Hossain dismissed Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dube at the economy rate of 14.30. Shakib took one wicket and dismissed the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma.

Second Innings

Bangladesh’s opening batting performance could have been better as the openers were unable to set the right path for the team to achieve the target score. The first wicket fell in 4.3 overs, Litton was sent back to the pavilion by Hardik Pandya, scoring only 13 runs off 10 balls.

Soon Tanzid Hasan had to go back to the pavilion at 29 runs and in no time, Towhid Hridoy’s wicket fell, and things started to get out of control for Bangladesh.

None of the batsmen managed to stay on the pitch for long, protect wickets and score runs. Najmul scored the quintessential 40 runs off 32 balls, hitting 1 four and 3 sixes at the strike rate of 125.00.

Other than Najmul, Rishad tried to add some runs to the scoreboard, but the effort didn’t bear any fruit. He scored 24 runs off 10 balls, hitting 1 four, and 3 sixes at the strike rate of 240.00.

India bowled efficiently. Every bowler took at least a wicket other than Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja. Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah took 2 wickets each, whereas Hardik and Kuldeep took 1 and 3 wickets respectively.

In the end, Bangladesh failed to achieve the target score and India won the match by 50 runs, for the 5th time straight!

What’s Next?

India will confront Australia on 24th June at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium for the 51st match. India currently stands at the top position, and they want to keep it unchanged.

Bangladesh will be facing Afghanistan on 25th June at the Arnos Vale Ground. Currently, Bangladesh is trailing behind in the points table as the team has lost both the matches of the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024. Winning the next match becomes crucial for the Proteas to secure a promising position and increase their chances of staying in the tournament.
