Sri Lanka Losses the IND vs SL 3rd T20 and the Series with a Whitewash

Sri Lanka lost the chance to lose the T20I series with a whitewash after India grabs the victory in the super over.

The encounter between the teams in the IND vs SL 3rd T20 was pure cricket action. Both teams gave each one a cut-throat, but eventually, India grabbed the victory in the super over.

Poor Start by India

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl first. India has a poor start with their first falling in the second over, Yashasvi went out for 10 off 9. In no time, Sanju and Rinku were returned to the pavilion by Chamindu Wickramasinghe and M Theekshana respectively.

Where the top batting lineup collapsed, the partnership between Shubman Gill and Riyan Parag saved the day. Both batters scored 39 and 26 runs, respectively. Washington Sundar also contributed 26 runs in the target score.

With this batting performance, India was only able to score 137 runs at a loss of 9 wickets in the India versus Sri Lanka 3rd T20.

An Unfulfilled Goal by Sri Lanka

What seemed like an easily attainable target score for Sri Lanka, turned out to be out of their luck! Though Sri Lanka picked up well as the opening batsmen, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis took control of the game and started adding runs for the team.

Nissanka, Mendis, and Perera scored 26, 43, and 46 runs respectively. Things started to tremble for Sri Lanka after Hasaranga’s wicket in the 16.3 over. SL’s wickets started to fall one after the other.

The middle and lower batting order couldn’t confront the Indian bowlers. With a double run in the last over, Sri Lanka tied the match and now....

Sri Lanka batted first! What a disaster!

Washington Sundar on the bowling end, Kusal Mendis on strike and the first bowl got wide increasing the hopes for Sri Lanka. But in no time, the hopes were shattered as the first wicket fell Perera got out, and Ravi Bishnoi took the catch!

Just after this wicket, Nissanka tried to pull a slog-sweep and the ball landed in the hands of Rinku Singh. All over for Sri Lanka, the team scored only 2 runs in the first innings of the super over.

Easy-peasy task for the Indian cricket team! Theekshana threw a delivery and Suryakumar being Suryakumar flicked the ball towards a short fine leg, the fielder missed, and the ball ran outside the boundary line! A four!

Did We Witness a Captain-Like Performance?

Not sure about the batting performance, wherein Suryakumar scored 8 runs only. His contribution was essential for the team to score higher runs. But the Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav did a great job while bowling.

Suryakumar took 2 wickets in one over at the economy rate of 5.00.

As the T20I series of the India Tour of Sri Lanka 2024 concluded with 3-0, India being the winner! Now, both the teams will face each other in the ODI series starting from 2nd August at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

After the whitewash in the T20I series, Sri Lanka will be looking forward to turning things around in the ODI series. India would give all in to maintain the winning streak and emerge as the winners in the India Tour of Sri Lanka 2024.
