India Announce squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is drawing a lot of attention, especially after the Men’s team’s recent T20 World Cup victory. With high expectations, many Indians are hopeful that the Women’s team can replicate that success.
In their quest for their first international title, the BCCI has just announced the 15-member Indian Women’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the team, with Smriti Mandhana serving as the vice-captain. The tournament kicks off on 3rd October, with the final set for 20th October, all taking place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, before the tournament officially kicks off, there will be 10 warm up games, which are scheduled between 28th September and 1st October.
The Indian Women’s Cricket team faces a challenging group stage, having been drawn against strong teams like Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. India’s campaign begins on October 4th with a match against New Zealand in Dubai. Apart from Harampreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, India’s roster for the T20 World Cup also consist of the likes of Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wk), Yastika Bhatia (wk)*, Pooja Vastrakar, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, Dayalan Hemalatha, Asha Sobhana, Radha Yadav, Shreyanka Patil, Sajana Sajeevan.
*Yastika Bhatia's participation is subject to fitness clearance.
The traveling reserves include Uma Chetry (wk), Tanuja Kanwer, and Saima Thakor, while Raghvi Bist and Priya Mishra will serve as non-traveling reserves.
