In the third contest of the Women’s Premier League 2024, Gujarat Giants W are facing last year’s champions Mumbai Indians W at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
The match against Gujarat will be the previous season's champions' second game this season, having defeated Delhi Capitals in the 2024 WPL opener at the same stadium.
The club will try to maintain their winning streak and capture another victory to strengthen their position in the points table. A successful performance versus Gujarat will be critical to their confidence moving forward in the competition.
The two teams' campaigns were completely contrary in the first edition. Despite having a great team, the Giants finished at the bottom of the table, with Mumbai coming out as the final champions.
There are additional seasoned players on the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team, including Hayley Mathews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amelia Kerr, and Shabnim Ismail, among others.
Meanwhile, Giants captain Beth Mooney was ruled out of the 2023 WPL after suffering an injury in the first game. Sneh Rana took over as captain of the team. Rana was unable to improve the team's results.
This season, however, Mooney will return as captain. This year, Gujarat would seek to enhance their performance with players like Laura Wolvaadrt, Veda Krishnamurthy, Phoebe Litchfield, Ashleigh Gardner, Harleen Deol, and Rana.
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru provides a batting-friendly surface for Twenty20 cricket. The WPL 2024 matches are likely to be played on a level surface with short boundaries, which can lead to high-scoring games.
Teams batting first have won (7) of the (18) T20 games played here, so both captains will likely opt to field first on Friday.
