Shouldn’t we all celebrate this win? Finally, Gujarat Giants W got their first win since the WPL 2024 started! RCB W lost the (13th) contest against GGT W by (19) runs.
Gujarat Giants W’s decision of batting first winning the toss helped them to beat the stronger team like Royal Challengers Bangalore W. Another factor was the pitch, Arun Stadium favors the batsmen.
There wasn’t any dew, and considering the pitch status, it was a sensible decision by the GGT W captain to bat first.
The batters of GGT W were already determined to fetch a win this time, score higher, and leave a difficult target to chase for the opponent.
The opening partnership of (140) runs between Wolvaardt and Mooney was the perfect epitome of class cricket. Wolvaardt scored (76 off 45) and Mooney scored (85 off 51) runs.
This partnership added over (25) (4s), (13) by Wolvaardt, and (12) by Mooney on the scoreboard. It was for this partnership, that the team was able to score a total of (199) runs as the rest of the batters could not score in double digits, except Phoebe Litchfield.
The credit for GGT W’s win goes to RCB W bowlers as well. Only two of them were able to take wickets. Molineux and Wareham took one wicket each. However in the first innings, GGT W’s (5) feel, including (2) by the bowlers. (3) wickets fell due to poor coordination between the batswomen while running.
RCB W struggled hard to reach the target, though they reached near but could not achieve it. Opening the batting line-up didn’t work. The middle order tried to add runs on the board, but the frequency of wickets falling was higher.
The team played till the last bowl but were able to score (180) runs with a loss of (8) wickets.

Gujarat Giants W has already lost many matches in the past, winning only one didn’t make any difference in their rankings at the points table. But this win will push them to get more victories and reach up the rankings. Currently, they are at the bottom.
Royal Challengers Bangalore W are currently standing at the (2nd) spot. MI W’s match against UPW W will decide if RCB W will change or not. If MI W wins then they will replace the positions with RCB W.
