England, the reigning champions of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, have announced their squad for the upcoming season. Let's look closer at the 15 players representing the country in their quest to defend their title.
According to the ICC, the top 2nd team in the Men's T20I Team Rankings have announced their 15-player squads for the upcoming season.
England, the reigning champions, have included the much-anticipated Jofra Archer in their squad. Archer is making a comeback to international cricket after recovering from an elbow injury that kept him out for over a year. He last played for England in a T20I series against Bangladesh in March 2023. Archer will be hoping to make a big impact at the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
Experienced all-rounder Chris Jordan has also secured his place in the England squad. Jordan is returning to international cricket after a significant break.
In the batting department, Jos Buttler, the captain of the reigning champions, will be joined by Will Jacks, Phil Salt, and Jonny Bairstow in the top-order batting line-up. Left-hand batter Ben Duckett and the versatile Moeen Ali will handle the middle-order batting, while Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, and Tom Hartley are expected to feature in the lower order.
Here’s the complete England squad for the T20 World Cup 2024:- Jos Buttler (Captain & Wk), Jofra Archer, Moeen Ali, Jonathan Bairstow, Sam Curran, Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, Mark Wood.
Mark Wood and Harry Brook were seen in the IPL 2024 auction, but they did not come to play IPL matches. Harry Brook's reason for not playing was his grandmother's death, but Mark Wood's reason could also be the preparation for the ICC Mens T20 World Cup.
However, most of the England team players like Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Jonathan Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Reece Topley, and Phil Salt will be seen playing in the IPL 2024 matches. But they can be called back by the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) for World Cup practice.
