Rise in ATP Rankings, Sumit Nagal at his Career Best

The Rising Indian Tennis Star, Sumit Nagal is currently at his career’s best ATP rankings.

New ATP rankings were released this Monday, 26-year-old Indian Tennis player Sumit Nagal has climbed to the 68th spot from 138th. Sumit achieved this massive change in this year only, in January 2024, Sumit was standing at the 138th spot and with this incredible form and accomplishments, Sumit rose to the 68th rank.

Why has Sumit Nagal’s Rankings Improved?

Sumit’s great performance in the present year allowed him to upgrade his ATP rank. The following events led to this change-

  • Winning Chennai Open (ATP Challenger Event)
  • Heilbronn Neckarcup in Germany, Sumit’s second ATP Challenger title
  • Finishing as a runner-up in the ATP Challenger Event in Perugia, Italy
  • Featuring in the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon

With his victory in the Chennai Open this year, Sumit broke into the top 100 for the first time in his career. In June 2024, Sumit rose to 77th ATP rank after grabbing his second ATP Challenger Title (Heilbronn Neckarcup).

After beating the ATP No.31, Alexander Bublik at the Australian Open, Sumit became the first Indian male tennis player to defeat a seeded player at the Grand Slam in 35 years.

Sumit Nagal is also the first Indian Player in five years to contest a Wimbledon Men’s Singles main draw match. Sumit has climbed five ranks in the latest rankings, leaving behind No. 71 Sashi Menon. With this event, Sumit also became the 4th highest-ranked Indian tennis player since 1973.

Sumit Nagal in Paris Olympics 2024

With his consistent and promising form, Sumit has grabbed a spot to play in the men’s singles event at the much-awaited Paris Olympics 2024.

It is going to be his second Olympic appearance after Tokyo Olympics 2020 and with this Sumit becomes the second Indian player to feature in recurrent men’s singles draws at the Summer Games.

Before the Paris Olympics, Sumit Nagal will be contesting in the Swedish Open.
