USA vs IRE – Monank Patel is not Playing Again

Monank Patel is missing another contest – USA vs IRE. Monank Patel could not play against India in the Super 8 qualifying match.

Due to a shoulder injury just before the start of the contest against India, Monank Patel, the American cricket team captain, had to rule out of the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024. The captain had to miss out on playing against India, and now against Ireland.

Batsman, Aaron Jones replaced Monank as the Captain and will be leading the American team in the next match against Ireland.

The intensity and severity of the injury are still unknown but the circumstances state that the injury has restricted Monank from playing a match.

Monank Patel’s performance in the current season of the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup has been incredible. Before the injury, Monank played against Pakistan and scored 50 runs off 38 balls.

His captaincy resulted in the USA’s victory in the Super Over.

So far, Monank played two ICC T20 World Cup 2024 matches one against Canada and Pakistan and scored 66 runs. Overall, Monank Patel's T20 stats seem promising as in the current year, he played 7 T20I matches and scored 240 runs with the highest of 68 against Canada.

It is Monank’s dream to stand beside Rohit Sharma during the toss, but dreams do ask for patience.

Before the match against India, in an interview, Monank said-

"Before the World Cup, when I got to know that we are playing India in the group stage, the first thing that came into my mind was that I would toss the coin alongside Rohit Sharma. He is my favourite player and I follow him very closely. It will be a huge thing for me and I will remember it for quite a long time,"

"I came to the USA in 2015. I had a green-card in 2010, so I used to go back-and-forth every year. Gujarat U-15 and U-19 I have played and played U-19 till 2015. Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah were my teammates. Properly, I moved to the USA in 2015 and after 3 years I properly got eligible for the selection process. I got selected and since 2018 I have been associated with the USA team," Monank had further added.
