Joe Root Might Fetch the No.1 Spot in ICC Test Rankings

Joe Root is close to get the first spot in the ICC No.1 Test Batsman Rankings after the second Test against West Indies.

Joe Root moves seven points closer to the ICC No.1 Test Batsman, Kane Williamson in the recent ICC Test Rankings. This change occurred after England’s bossy performance in the second Test against the West Indies.

This performance by the English team led to a rise in the ICC Test Rankings of many players, but Joe Root stands out. Joe is just seven points away from the Kiwi player, Kane Williamson to stand in the top spot.

Kane has 859 points in his account, whereas Joe stands at 852 points.

Joe’s Performance in the Second Test

Joe Root became one of the players in the second test among Ben Stokes’ squad. The team won the match by 241 runs against West Indies at Trent Bridge Stadium. Joe Root scored his 32nd Test century and moved up the ICC Test Rankings, closer to Kane Williamson.

Due to an incredible performance, Joe Root improved his 12 rating points and got 7 points closer to Kane. Joe holds the second spot in the ICC Test Batsman Rankings.

Joe has the chance to stand at the top spot by displaying another spectacular performance in the third and final Test against the Caribbeans in Birmingham.

Who Else Moved Up the Ladder?

Apart from Joe Root got the advantage upon winning and performing well in the second Test. Right after Joe Rott, Harry Brooks stands in queue, standing at the 3rd spot in the ICC Test Rankings (his career best).

Harry Brooks, a 25-year-old batsman has left behind eminent cricket players like Babar Azam, Steve Smith, Rohit Sharma and Daryl Mitchell after scoring a century in the second innings in Nottingham.

Ben Duckett moved up six spots to 16th and Ollie Pope moved up eight spots to 21st.

Whereas for the other side, the West Indies, Kraigg Brathwaite moved up two spots at the 40th, Joshu Da Silva moved up with seven spots at the 61st, and Kavem Hodge moved up 21 spots to the 75th.

Not only the batters, but bowlers too improved their rankings. Shoaib Bashir now stands at the 53rd spot after taking five wickets in the second innings. Jayden Seales moved up 10 places and stands at the 34th spot in the Nottingham match.

Let’s see if Joe Root can get to the top of the ICC Test Rankings.
