A collaborative effort - quintessential innings by Virat Kohli, surprising batting from Axar Patel, much-needed runs from Shivam Dube, incredibly economical bowling from Jasprit Bumrah, wickets by Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya dismissing Heinrich Klassen, an incredible catch by Suryakumar Yadav.

India has made her mark by becoming the T20 World Cup 2024 champion. A declaration from Virat Kohli - it was his last T20 World Cup.

Let’s revisit every bowl, every run and every special moment of the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024 Final.

India’s Innings

Virat opened it smoothly, a four across the outside off. Kohli seems to be taking the form back that was missed in the previous matches of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

What an opening! That’s what exactly happens when you accumulate the wait for years to win the ICC T20 World Cup Trophy!

India faced a bomb; the captain was gone! A well-timed shot but it just wasn’t Rohit Sharma’s day!

Rohit scored 9 runs off 5 balls. All eyes were on Kohli and Rishabh Pant. It was the moment when India needed a strong partnership.

Soon things started to go wrong for India. Rishabh Pant attempted to pull a shot on the leg side, but Quinton de Kock caught it.

A partnership was now highly urgent for the Men in Blue.

Blows after blows, India was in trouble at this stage! Suryakumar Yadav could not lead the ball to the boundary and Klassen took the catch.

Axar came in at the 5th spot. India had to protect wickets! India was 47-3 in 7 overs.

Axar Patel broke India’s monotony by hitting a six at the slog-sweep.

Axar again! Incredible six against a delivery from Keshav Maharaj. Axar was turning out to be an essential element in increasing the run rate.

At the halftime of the innings, it's time for a drinks break! India at 75-3.

At this pitch, Men in Blue needed to score more than 160 runs to secure a promising situation. But South Africa imposed equivalent pressure on the Indian side. The next half of the innings might decide India’s fate.

Axar was keeping the responsibility to play shots aiming for a boundary, whereas Virat Kohli was playing more safely with an intention to protect the wicket and stay on the pitch for long!

Gradually, India was getting back to its ideal pace.

Things were going on smoothly for India, Axar and Virat were scoring runs at a balanced pace, hitting a couple of boundaries between singles. It was a calm before the storm, Quinton de Kock dismissed Axar, hitting at the bowler’s end, and Axar Patel out!

The guy did his work! India at 118-4 on 15 overs.

Virat Kohli stole the spotlight, the top of his game, hitting six after six. With Shivam Dube and Virat at the pitch, India surpassed the 150-run mark in 18 overs at the loss of 4 wickets.

In the last 2 overs, India accelerated the run rate. Virat, King Kohli, banged a 95 m long six over long-run!

Soon, Virat Kohli was dismissed at 76 runs off 59 balls. Shivam went on fire in the last over. Out for 27 runs off 16 balls.

Ravindra Jadeja launched a cannon on his first bowl. India finished their innings at 176 runs.

South Africa's Innings

Indian bowlers left no chance in imposing pressure in the initial overs of the innings. Jasprit Bumrah took the first wicket in the second over, dismissing Reeza Hendricks at 4 runs.

While South Africa was trying to maintain the pace, Arshdeep Singh was successful in taking a wicket. This time, the Proteas captain, Aiden Markram edged, and Pant dived forward to catch. Aiden scored 4 runs off 5 balls.

The onus was on Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs, they had to stay on the pitch.

Quinton hit a six in the last over of the 8th ball! Stubbs added another one to the tally!

Axar Patel did wonders, dismissing Stubbs in the 8.5 over! Axar wanted the revenge of those sixes!

De Kock got another, Pant caught the catch but at a free hit.

In half of the innings, South Africa scored 81 runs at the loss of 3 wickets.

With an effort to score another boundary at the short fine but Kuldeep Yadav said, “Sir, at your service”, the spinner took the catch easily. One more wicket in Arshdeep’s pocket. With this wicket, India went back in the game.

Men in Blue had to break the two strongest pillars of the Proteas - Klassen and Miller. One of them had to go back to the pavilion to increase India’s chances of winning the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024 Final.

Klassen was turning out to be a problem for India. Sixes, one after the other! Axar’s over was an expensive one, with 2 wide balls, and 2 sixes. South Africa needed 32 runs off 31 balls.

In the 15.2 scored half-century, 51 runs off 23 balls!

Hardik did what India needed the most! Klassen edged and gone. Efficient over from the all-rounder, one wicket and no boundary.

Bumrah-o-Bumrah! Jansen fell prey to a deadly bowl from Jasprit Bumrah.

In the last over, South Africa needed 16 runs off 6 balls. Wow! A wonder happened at the boundary, Suryakumar caught the ball like Superman! With this catch, Suryakumar caught the Champion Trophy for the team!

What a match, a roller coaster ride! A wicket at one ball and a boundary at another. The Proteas needed 11 off 3 balls.

A wide by Hardik, the pressure got intense! 9 runs off 2 balls!

There goes a wicket, Rabada gone!

Last run at the final bowl! And India won the match by 7 runs.

The wait of 13 years was OVER!

India became the first team to win every match in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
