David Warner Bids Adieu to International Cricket

It is now official! David Warner has decided to retire from international cricket. However, he is still open to playing in the Champions Trophy.

After Australia got the taste of defeat from India, the news of David Warner’s retirement from international cricket started popping up! The Australian opener with 49 international centuries under his name, has decided to retire from the ODI and Test cricket earlier this year.

For Australia to qualify for the semi-finals in the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024, Bangladesh had to defeat Afghanistan in the final match of the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024.

But sadly, Afghanistan won the match by 8 runs and Australia lost all the hopes to continue their journey in the T20 World Cup 2024. David Warner had to end his international career on a bitter note. It would have been great for the Australian batter to end his career after Australia qualified for the semi-finals or won the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Australia’s elimination from the T20 World Cup confirmed David’s retirement from the international cricket contest. Warner had already hinted towards his retirement that the T20 World Cup at USA and West Indies would be his final in the Australian jersey.

Though Warner has presented a desire to return for the Champions Trophy 2025, the chances are less.

David Warner had a brilliant T20 career. In 2021, Warner became the fourth batsman to achieve 10,000 runs in T20 cricket.

In the ICC’s Digital Daily Show, Ricky Ponting said,

"I said, '...just take a moment tonight to sit back by yourself and reflect on what's been an unbelievable career across all three formats for Australia.’

"We know he retired in the summer from test cricket, but you'll struggle to find a guy that's had as big an impact on all three forms in Australian cricket than David Warner has.

"I've been able to play with him, I've been able to coach him in the IPL the last couple of years and I really enjoy his company. So, he should be very proud of what he's done."
