Chaos at the Paris Olympics Football Tournament – ARG vs MAR

A lot happened in the Paris Olympic Football tournament as Argentina confronted Morocco.

There’s still a day left before the Paris Olympics 2024 kickstarts. However, the initial stages of several sports like Football, Rugby Sevens, Archery, and Handball will commence before the opening ceremony.

During one such Football event of the Paris Olympics 2024, hell broke loose as 2024 Copa America winner, Argentina locked horns with Morocco.

It was nothing less than a dramatic contest!

Argentina's late goal was disallowed two hours after the play.

Fans entered the pitch.

Plastic bottles and cups were thrown at the pitch.

A Lookback at the Gameplay

Argentina was trailing behind with 1-2 in the injury time, and in just that time, Cristian Medina scored a required goal in the 90+16’, and the score went equal.

After this, several fans barged onto the pitch, and it was utter chaos. When the Argentina players were celebrating the equalizing goal, plastic bottles and cups were thrown at the pitch.

The teams left the playing area, but the referee hadn’t blown the full-time whistle, and the result of the match was a complete blur.

The goal by Medina was ruled out two hours after the play.

Two hours later, teams re-entered the pitch with no spectators to play for three more minutes.

Argentina is attempting to win men's football gold for the third Olympics after winning in 2004 and 2008, but the team trailed 2-0 after a brace from Soufiane Rahimi.

Meanwhile, Argentina's performance was disappointing, despite having Copa America champions Nicholas Otamendi, Julian Alvarez, and Geronimo Rulli in their lineup.

Reaction by Lionel Messi

Argentina Football captain, Lionel Messi was shell-shocked upon hearing this news. Messi is not part of the Olympic squad but being a national captain, this news did affect him. Upon hearing the incident, Lionel Messi posted an Instagram story and wrote - "Insolito" which means “unbelievable” or “unusual” in English.

The Argentina Football manager, Javier Mascherano was stunned to witness what happened during the match and described it as "the biggest circus I've ever seen in my life".

Racist Song’s Controversy

It goes back to the Copa-America title-winning celebrations, Argentina players sang a controversial and racist song attacking France in the team bus. Also, Argentina faced a backlash from the fans while contesting against Morocco.
