Recent reports out of Italy have suggested that English giants Liverpool have approached Juventus to inquire about Federico Chiesa.
Following a 10-month spell on the sidelines due to an ACL injury, the 26-year-old Italian has found himself on the periphery of Thiago Motta’s new-look Juventus. The club’s management has made it clear that Chiesa isn’t part of their future plans. Hence, the Italian giants are desperate to sell the winger. It’s a sharp decline for a player who, just a few years ago, was among the world’s most coveted wingers in the world. He played an instrumental role in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph. Unfortunately, his career trajectory was abruptly derailed by that devastating ACL injury, and he's been struggling to regain his form ever since. Last season, Federico Chiesa scored 10 goals and assisted a further two times in 37 games for Juventus.
However, a move to Liverpool might just reinvigorate his career. Juventus’ asking price for Chiesa is 15-million euros, which the Reds are more than happy to pay. While there are some concerns regarding his knee, Liverpool are interested in the 26-year-old winger because of his pedigree and potential. Furthermore, as per reports from Italy, Chiesa is also very keen on a move to the Premier League, According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, “Understand Chiesa has given his full availability to join Liverpool after initial talks. He’s excited about this possibility and contract won’t be an issue. Juventus want Chiesa to leave and asking price is around €15m. Deal ON.”
If Federico Chiesa's transfer to Liverpool goes through, he’ll become the Reds' second signing of the summer. The first was Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who Liverpool brought in from Valencia for a reported €30 million, with an additional €5 million in add-ons. However, Mamardashvili will spend the 2024/25 season back on loan at Valencia, meaning Chiesa would technically be Liverpool's first real addition to the squad this summer.
Liverpool had to fend off competition from Barcelona to secure Chiesa's signature. Although the Catalan club showed strong interest and even submitted a bid, their ongoing financial struggles prevented them from reaching an agreement with Juventus on the deal's structure. This allowed Liverpool to swoop in and potentially land the Italian winger. However, once Chiesa arrives in Liverpool, he would have to compete with the likes of Cody Gakpo, Luiz Dias, Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott for a place in Arne Slot’s starting XI. But with Liverpool fighting on multiple fronts, the 26-year-old winger would surely get a chance to impress.
