Manchester United have announced that club legend and interim manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy has left the club following Ruben Amorim’s arrival on Monday. Van Nistelrooy took over the manager position on an interim basis after Erik ten Hag’s sacking. In four games, Van Nistelrooy managed to lead the Red Devils to three wins and a draw, scoring 11 times in the process.
Despite 18 months remaining on his contract, the Manchester United hierarchy have decided to part ways with Van Nistelrooy as Amorim wants his own staff at the club. Besides Van Nistelrooy, other members of Ten Hag’s backroom staff like Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel will also leave the club. The Red Devils announced Van Nistelrooy’s departure via an official club statement, which read, “Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach. Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford. Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have also departed and we wish them all well for the future. We will confirm the full men's first team coaching composition in due course."
Talking about United’s new backroom staff, while Ruben Amorim and the Red Devils haven’t announced the new backroom staff, it is being reported that Amorim will be joined by Emanuel Ferro, Adélio Cândido and Carlos Fernandes, the goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital and the sports scientist Paulo Barreira. Manchester United fans are buzzing with excitement over Ruben Amorim’s arrival, especially after his Sporting CP side handed Manchester City a stunning 4-1 defeat in the Champions League. But Amorim and his coaching team will have their work cut out for them. Transitioning from Erik ten Hag’s preferred 4-2-3-1 setup to Amorim's favored 3-4-3 formation won’t be simple, as it marks a significant shift in United’s tactical approach. In fact, he’ll be the first manager since Louis Van Gaal in 2014 to bring a back three into United’s playbook.
United’s defender Matthijs De Ligt noted that one of Amorim's biggest early challenges in Manchester will be getting players “on the same page.” He also said, “I think a back three or a back four, it's in general the same, the only thing of importance is how the team is set up. You can play in a back three but if everything is not compact and everybody is doing their own job then it's going to be really difficult, the same in a back four. That's going to be the biggest challenge for the trainers, to get everyone on the same wavelength and same page to improve as a team and improve as players."
Ruben Amorim has already started his new job after arriving in Manchester. However, with certain documents and work permits still pending, Amorim isn’t allowed to hold coaching sessions. Having said that, Amorim’s arrival will certainly expedite the process, and the belief is that he will receive his work permit before players arrive from international duty. Amorim’s first game in-charge as Manchester United’s head coach will take place on 24th November when the Red Devils take on newly promoted Ipswich Town.
