The month of September was pretty exciting for Premier League fans. We got to witness a plethora of enthralling games and stellar individual performances, which left on the edge of our seats. So, in order to facilitate those exceptional performances, the Premier League recently revealed September’s Player and Manager of the Month.
Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca has been named the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for September. This accolade comes on the back of an unbeaten month in which Chelsea have clinched wins against Brighton, West Ham and Bournemouth as well as a draw against Crystal Palace. Chelsea’s recent hot streak under Maresca only goes on to vindicate their hierarchy’s decision to hire the Italian head coach in place of Mauricio Pochettino. Despite some early hiccups, Maresca has gotten his Chelsea career off to a promising start.
After winning the Manager of the Month, Maresca credited his staff for the honor. In an interview with the Premier League, he said, “We (Chelsea) had a very good month. We all need people around us to make things better. I’m grateful to have all of them (his staff).” Maresca becomes the first Chelsea head coach to win the award since Thomas Tuchel, who claimed the award in October 2021. The 44-year-old Italian had to outshine some serious competition to earn this honor. He topped a five-man shortlist which included the likes of Unai Emery, Mikel Arteta, Marco Silva, Arne Slot and Mikel Arteta.
Elsewhere, Cole Palmer was voted as September’s Player of the Month. The 22-year-old led the Premier League in both goals and goal involvement for the month. In four games, Palmer has scored five goals and provided one assist. Incredibly, four of Palmer’s five goals came in a single match against Brighton. Besides his four-goal haul against Brighton, Palmer also provided an assist against Crystal Palace and scored a goal in Chelsea’s 3-0 demolition of West Ham. This marks Palmer’s second Premier League monthly accolade, having previously claimed the Player of the Month award back in April 2024. The 22-year-old fought off the likes of Luiz Dias, Ollie Watkins, Ryan Gravenberch, Raul Jimenez, Dwight McNeil, and Harvey Barnes for the award.
Apart from naming the Manager and Player of the Month recipients, Premier League also awarded Jhon Duran’s wonder-strike against Everton as September’s Goal of the Month. Surprisingly, this goal was the third time in four Prem games that Duran had scored a match-winning goal after coming on as a substitute. The Aston Villa starlet had to fend off competition from Darwin Nunez, Harvey Barnes, James Justin, Riccardo Calafiori and Dwight McNeil.
