The month of October was pretty exciting for Premier League fans. We got to witness a plethora of enthralling games and stellar individual performances, which left on the edge of our seats. So, in order to facilitate those exceptional performances, the Premier League recently revealed October’s Player and Manager of the Month.
Nottingham Forrest’s Nuno Espirito Santo has been named the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for October. This accolade comes on the back of an unbeaten month in which Nottingham Forest secured wins over Leicester City and Crystal Palace as well as a draw against Chelsea. Nottingham Forest’s recent hot streak under Nuni only goes on to vindicate their hierarchy’s decision to hire the Portuguese head coach in place of Steve Cooper. Nuno has gotten his Forest career off to an extremely promising start.
The 50-year-old Portuguese had to outshine some serious competition in order to earn this honor. He topped a four-man shortlist that included the likes of Fabian Hurzeler, Pep Guardiola and Arne Slot. With this accolade, only 11 managers in Premier League history have won the award more times. Nuno now stands alongside the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Eddie Howe, Kevin Keegan, and Claudio Ranieri with five Premier League Manager of the Month awards.
Elsewhere, Chris Wood made history, as he was voted as October’s Player of the Month. The 32-year-old became the first Nottingham Forest player and the first New Zealander to clinch this award. Wood led the Premier League in goals for the month of October. In three games, Wood scored four goals. He found the back of the net in each of his three outings, tallying four goals overall to propel Forest to an unbeaten month. His efforts secured a draw at Chelsea, a win over Crystal Palace, and a triumphant East Midlands derby victory against Leicester City. The 32-year-old fought off the likes of Josko Gvardiol, Bryan Mbeumo, Matz Sels, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Facundo Buonanotte and Danny Welbeck for the award.
After creating history, Chris Wood expressed his pleasure at winning the award. In an interview with Nottingham Forest TV, Wood thanked his teammates and coaching staff. He said, “I'm over the moon with it. It's a fantastic achievement. It's a credit to all of us and how the team's working. I couldn't have done it without them. They supply me with all the chances, so it's nice that I've been able to tuck them away for them."
Apart from naming the Manager and Player of the Month recipients, Premier League also awarded Nicolas Jackson’s goal against Newcastle United as October’s Goal of the Month. This marks Jackson's first Premier League monthly award, while it's also the second time this season that a Chelsea player has taken home the Guinness Goal of the Month award. Palmer previously claimed the August prize for his brilliant lob against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Jackson’s goal topped an eight-man shortlist that also included Bukayo Saka, Facundo Buonanotte, Josko Gvardiol, Ryan Christie, Andreas Pereira, Jeremy Doku and Alejandro Garnacho.
