The first month of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign has flown by. With multiple thrilling performances in the month of August, Premier League has once again proved why it’s the most entertaining league in the world. And in order to honor the best entertainers of the division, Premier League announced the nominees for August’s POTM and MOTM.
Following their team’s perfect start to the season, both Pep Guardiola and Liverpool’s Arne Slot have been nominated for the Manager of the Month award. Both Liverpool and Manchester City have won all three of their Premier League games. In fact, Liverpool still haven’t conceded a goal.
Besides Guardiola and Slot, Premier League’s youngest ever coach, Florian Hurzeler, is also nominated for the award. His Brighton side have raced out of the blocks, winning two games and drawing their third game of the season away at Arsenal. The fourth manager on the list is Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard has transformed Arsenal into title contenders, and they have begun the season like one. From three Premier League matches, the Gunners have accrued 7 points, securing wins against Wolves and Aston Villa, a drawing against Brighton despite being a man down for half of the game.
As for August’s Player of the Month, the Premier League have shortlisted 8 players. After scoring back-to-back hattricks, it’s a given that Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is nominated. The Norwegian has already scored 7 goals in the Prem. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is also on the list. The Egyptian has scored two goals and provided a further assist in the month of August. However, his goal and two assists against Manchester United won’t be counted, as the encounter took place on 1st September. Furthermore, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has also been nominated after scoring a goal and grabbing three assists in Arsenal’s first three games of the season.
Saka is joined by his teammate David Raya on the shortlist. The Spanish shot-stopper has kept two clean sheets in three games, and his outrageous save against Aston Villa is already a contender for save of the season. Cole Palmer also finds himself on the list. The 22-year-old has racked up 3 assists and a goal. Coincidentally, each of Palmer’s four goal contributions came in a single match against Wolves. The shortlist is rounded off by Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo (3 goals), Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana (2 goals) and Brighton’s Danny Welbeck (2 goals). The results of August’s Player of the Month (POTM) and Manager of the Month (MOTM) will be announced before the start of Gameweek 4.
