PFA Player of the Year Awards Announced

The results are in from the recently concluded Professional Footballers Association’s award ceremony. So, here are the players who were declared winner during this prestigious event.

With several deserving candidates up for awards, the 2024 PFA awards were competitive. However, it was Manchester City’s homegrown star Phil Foden, who took home the PFA Player of the Year Award. The 24-year-old, who also won the Football Writers’ award in May, becomes the fourth City player in the last five years to win the PFA Player of the Year award. Foden netted 19 goals and provided 8 assists during Manchester City’s run to their fourth consecutive Premier League title. Foden edged out the likes of Martin Odegaard, Ollie Watkins, Cole Palmer, and teammates Rodri and Erling Haaland for the award.

Elsewhere, Chelsea sensation Cole Palmer took home the PFA Young Player of the Year award. Palmer enjoyed a stunning debut season at Stamford Bridge, as he scored 22 times and provided 11 assists during the 2023/24 season. He was the brightest star in a Chelsea squad, which is valued at over a billion dollars. The 22-year-old defeated fellow Englishmen Bukayo Saka and Kobbie Mainoo, as well as Alejandro Garnacho, Michael Olise, and Joao Pedro for the award.

The night also saw the Professional Footballers Association announce their Team of the Year. Arsenal, the Premier League runners-up, led the way with five players making this year's Team of the Year: David Raya, Gabriel, William Saliba, Martin Odegaard, and Declan Rice. Premier League winner Manchester City had the second most inclusions, with four. Kyle Walker, Rodri, Erling Haaland and PFA Player of the Year Phil Foden all got the nod. Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins completed the lineup.
