Napoli Open Talks With Borussia Dortmund For Karim Adeyami

Reports from Italy suggest that Napoli have set their sights on Borussia Dortmund's 23-year-old winger, Karim Adeyemi, as their top target. The Partenopei’s sudden focus on Adeyemi comes after hitting a roadblock in negotiations with Manchester United for Alejandro Garnacho. With Garnacho seemingly out of reach, Napoli appear ready to turn their attention to the explosive German winger to fill the Kvaratskhelia-shaped void in their squad.

Napoli have taken Serie A by storm this season, sitting proudly atop the standings as February rolls in. Few would have predicted Antonio Conte to work his magic so swiftly with the Partenopei, especially given the challenges he’s faced. The summer saw the departure of key figures like Victor Osimhen and Piotr Zielinski, but Conte kept the ship steady. However, the biggest setback in his short reign came this January with the departure of star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to PSG. Now, with Kvara gone, Napoli are actively seeking reinforcements, and it seems they’ve identified Karim Adeyami as their top target to fill the void.

Napoli initially had their eyes firmly set on Alejandro Garnacho, but Manchester United's steep €75 million price tag put the brakes on any potential deal. However, fresh reports suggest that the Red Devils have softened their stance, lowering their valuation to €65 million in hopes of finding common ground with the Serie A leaders. Despite the reduced price, there's still a gap to bridge, as Napoli reportedly value the Argentine winger at around €50-55 million, including bonuses. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli and Manchester United sat down for a second round of talks yesterday regarding Alejandro Garnacho. However, despite the renewed discussions, the two clubs have yet to find common ground, and no breakthrough has been reached.

As a result, Napoli have shown interest in signing Adeyami from Dortmund. Fabrizio Romano also reported on this developing story on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “Napoli have made contact with Borussia Dortmund today for Karim Adeyemi. Talks start with BVB open to January exit. Negotiations for Alejandro Garnacho are still on but no agreement with Man United after first bid; Chelsea are also weighing up a formal proposal.” Di Marzio has also corroborated this information. “Given the stand-by in the negotiations with Garnacho, Napoli has resumed contacts for Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund.”

With less than two weeks left in the winter transfer window, Napoli face a race against time to secure a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Failing to act swiftly could open the door for their rivals to derail their Scudetto ambitions. At the moment, the Partenopei hold a slender three-point lead over second-placed Inter Milan, though they’ve played one game more. The pressure is on for Napoli to solidify their squad and keep their title charge on track.
