Earlier today, Inter Miami unveiled breathtaking renderings of their future home, Miami Freedom Park, which they plan to move into in 2026. The club currently plays its home games at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, about 50 kilometers from where their new stadium will be located.
While this latest announcement is exciting, it's not the first time we've heard projected completion dates for Miami Freedom Park. Co-owner Jorge Mas previously aimed for a 2025 opening, but legal and logistical hurdles have pushed that timeline back. In fact, back in 2018, the goal was to have the team playing at Miami Freedom Park by the start of the 2022 MLS season.
In a recent statement, Inter Miami co-owner and football legend David Beckham shared his enthusiasm, saying, “Miami Freedom Park is the culmination of years of hard work and a desire to realize a vision and create a lasting legacy for the fans and the community of Miami and South Florida. I'm so happy to see that dream finally coming to life.” The stadium will be the crown jewel of a 131-acre complex designed to be a premier destination for sports and entertainment.
Inter Miami joined Major League Soccer in 2020, and since then, they’ve made Fort Lauderdale their home. The addition of 8x Ballon D’Or winner Lionel Messi has increased the profile of the club. Inter Miami’s home and away games are almost always sold out because of Messi. Apart from Messi, Inter Miami have also acquired Barcelona legends like Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, further increasing the club’s local and global popularity. The stadium there even saw a capacity expansion last year following Lionel Messi’s arrival. Whether Messi will ever play at Miami Freedom Park remains uncertain; his contract with the club runs through 2025, with an option for 2026.
