India Could Field 3 Spinner in the First Test vs Bangladesh

With India’s first test match against Bangladesh just a couple of days away, captain Rohit Sharma has settled on his Starting XI. According to reports, the ‘Hitman’ may decide to field three spinners for the match to take advantage of Chepauk’s turning pitch.

The anticipation surrounding India’s test series against Bangladesh has reached a crescendo, as the ‘Men in Blue’ take to the field for the first time since their triumphant 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. Moreover, this series will mark Gautam Gambhir’s debut as Team India’s head coach. With the match just two days away, conversations surrounding the composition of India’s Starting XI has piqued the interest of several fans. Fans are eager to know—who will Gautam Gambhir choose for his first Test as head coach? Is Rishabh Pant set for his long-awaited comeback? And can Yashasvi Jaiswal keep his place in the lineup? There’s plenty of intrigue leading up to the big day.

According to a report by Press Trust of India (PTI), Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir have decided to field a three-pronged spin bowling attack, which consists of Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. India’s bowling attack will be completed by pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Unsurprisingly, there is no space for Axar Patel in the Starting XI, despite impressive performances in the domestic circuit.

On the batting front, it looks like Rishabh Pant will reprise his role as India’s No.1 wicketkeeper after a two-year absence. This means Dhruv Jurel, who enjoyed an impressive test debut vs England, will miss out on selection. Aside from Pant’s much-anticipated return, India’s batting lineup remains largely the same. Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to open alongside skipper Rohit Sharma, with the in-form Shubman Gill slotting in at No.3. Virat Kohli, back after missing the England series in March due to personal reasons, will anchor the middle order at No.4.

With the first test against Bangladesh just around the corner, Indian cricket fans are buzzing with excitement. Thursday marks the start of a thrilling new chapter for Team India, and there’s a real sense that something special is on the horizon. All eyes are on the squad as they set out to make a bold statement.
