Earlier today, Italian giants AS Roma have decided to sack club legend Daniele Di Rossi from his head coaching role. Di Rossi’s sacking comes just days after the Giallorossi failed to secure a win over Genoa on Sunday.
The club legend replaced Jose Mourinho in Roma dugout in January, and the immediate impact was undeniable. Performances improved sharply, and the resurgence in form during the latter half of the season convinced Roma’s hierarchy to offer De Rossi a new three-year deal in June. The summer transfer window saw him backed significantly, with the club spending around €80 million on players like Artem Dovbyk, Matias Soulé, Enzo Le Fée, Manu Koné, Mats Hummels, and Mario Hermoso.
However, a frustrating draw against Genoa proved to be the final straw for De Rossi’s reign. The stalemate meant Roma had started the 2024/25 campaign without a single win in their first four matches—an unsettling rarity for the Giallorossi. This marked only the fourth time in the club’s history (following 1974-75, 1984-85, and 2010-11) that they failed to win any of their opening four Serie A fixtures. With just three goals scored and a record of three draws and one loss, Roma’s management made the tough call to part ways with De Rossi. A disappointing start to the season, especially after such optimism, left the club with no choice but to seek new leadership.
Following Di Rossi’s sacking, AS Roma thanked the club legend for his years of service to the club via statement, which read, “AS Roma announces that Daniele De Rossi has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team. The club's decision is made in the best interests of the team, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible at a time when the season is still in its early stages. A heartfelt thank you to Daniele, who will always be at home at the Giallorossi club, for the work he has done in recent months with passion and dedication."
During his tenure at Roma, De Rossi managed 30 games across all competitions, securing 14 wins, nine draws, and seven losses. His team netted 46 goals during this period. De Rossi's stint at the Stadio Olimpico ended with him averaging 1.70 points per match, resulting in a win percentage of 46.67%.
After sacking Di Rossi, the Roma management have decided to hire former Torino head coach Ivan Juric as Giallorossi's new head coach. Credible Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed this development via Twitter. He wrote, “Ivan Jurić becomes new AS Roma manager on contract until June 2025. There’s an option to extend the contract until June 2026 if AS Roma get qualified to Champions League 2025/26. He’s the replacement for Daniele de Rossi who’s been fired today.”
