Cavan Sullivan has created history by becoming the youngest player to appear in a Major League Soccer match.
Philadelphia Union and Manchester City player, Cavan Sullivan has marked his name as the youngest player in Major League Soccer at 14 years and 293 days, thrashing the record of Freddy Adu (14 years and 306 days).
The 14-year-old player stepped on the field to put his share in ending Philadelphia Union’s 10-match winless streak, defeating New England by 5-1.
In the last minute, Cavan entered the field and broke Freddy Adu’s record made in 2004 after he played his debut match for DC United. Adu congratulated Cavan on social media by posting-
Big congrats to Cavan Sullivan for his record-breaking debut today. That’s a hard record to break and the kid did it. Well done and good luck my man.”
Cavan is expected to play for Philadelphia in MLS until he turns 18. His contract states that Cavan will move to Manchester City in the Premier League after reaching 18 years of age.
In the latest, Cavan scored two goals with the Union’s MLS Next Pro Side. Philadelphia head coach, Jim Curtin talked about Cavan’s inclusion in the squad.
“He will be in the 20 because he’s earned that. If you look at this performance in Union II games, the goals that he has scored, Cavan has earned the right. The next step is working to get your first minutes and that might be one minute, might be 15 minutes or that might be 90 minutes, but you have to earn it,”
Let’s what the future has in store for this young player!
