Just a little over a month ago, Barcelona thrashed Real Madrid by a scoreline of 4-0 in the Bernabeu. Now, fans are in for another special treat as these football giants prepare to square off once again, but with a nostalgic twist: next month, Barcelona Legends will take on Real Madrid Leyendas in Japan.
This exhibition match will be hosted on 15th December at the Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo. The match promises to be a nostalgic and emotional event, as some of the biggest legends in Barcelona and Real Madrid’s history are about to participate in the exhibition match. The Real Madrid Legends team will see club icons like Iker Casillas, Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Steve McManaman, Ivan Campo, and Julio Baptista turn up. Barça Legends are bringing their own star-studded cast, featuring the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Rivaldo, Javier Mascherano, Rafa Marquez, and Bojan Krkic.
For Andreas Iniesta, who recently retired in October after a five-year spell with Vissel Kobe, this match will hold extra significance. Fans in Japan will get to catch a glimpse of Iniesta for the last time, and many have dubbed this match as Iniesta’s “Last Dance.” Besides that, it will be intriguing to witness Xavi and Iniesta working in tandem once again. This Legends El Clasico marks the fourth showdown between these two historic sides. Their first clash in 2017 saw the Blaugrana Legends edge out a 3-2 victory, only for the Merengues to even the score with a 3-2 win in their 2021 rematch. Now, the two will go head-to-head again later this month in Qatar, before taking the rivalry to Tokyo in December.
