Arne Slot Confident Mohamed Salah Will Commit to a Contract Extension With Liverpool

Where would Liverpool be without Mohamed Salah? The Egyptian played a starring role once again in Liverpool’s enthralling 3-3 draw at St. James’ Park. But despite his everlasting brilliance, Salah’s contract is about to run out at the end of the current season. Salah’s contract saga has dragged on since the summer, and it now threatens to overshadow the Reds’ impressive title charge.

Once again, Mohamed Salah stepped up when Liverpool needed him most, delivering a performance that kept their hopes of a first Premier League trophy in five years. Facing a spirited Newcastle side at Tyneside, the Reds found themselves trailing not once but twice, courtesy of goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon. But Liverpool showed remarkable grit and determination to claw their way back into the contest. Curtis Jones started the comeback with a well-taken goal, thanks to a perfectly timed assist from Salah. From that point on, it became the Mo Salah Show. The Egyptian superstar turned the game on its head, scoring his 12th and 13th Premier League goals of the season to hand Liverpool a vital lead.

Just when it seemed like Salah's heroics had sealed the deal, Fabian Schär struck late, ensuring the game ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw. Even so, Salah’s performance was the talk of the town. His contributions in this match took his combined goals and assists tally to an astonishing 21 from just 14 league games—a new Premier League record. If Salah keeps up this electrifying pace, the "Egyptian King" is on track to rack up an incredible 57 goals and assists by the season’s end—a potential record-breaking feat that would further cement his legacy as one of the league’s all-time greats.

Given Salah’s incredible form it seems like a no-brainer to reward the Egyptian with a contract extension. However, Salah’s contract saga has now dragged on for months, and the Egyptian poured gasoline over the situation with his recent comments. During a recent post-match interview, Salah said, “Well, we are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in.” His comments sent shockwaves throughout the Liverpool fanbase, with many fans urging FSG – Liverpool's owners – to just “Give Mo the Money.” Liverpool manager Arne Slot is eager to see Mohamed Salah’s contract situation resolved quickly. In a recent interview, the Dutch coach expressed confidence that the issue would be sorted out soon, remaining optimistic about the future and Salah’s continued commitment to the club. He said, “We are hoping and we expect he can continue this for a long time. He was outstanding in the second half, he did many special things for us. Mo had a massive impact.”

The sooner Liverpool resolves Mohamed Salah's contract situation, the better their chances of clinching a second Premier League title in five years. But truth be told, this whole saga shouldn’t have gotten to this point. Players like Salah—who bring that rare, world-class magic to the pitch—are incredibly hard to come by. They're the kind of players that transform a team and are simply irreplaceable. Sure, Salah might be over 30, but his goal contributions over the last few seasons prove he’s as sharp as ever. Even if you’re not a Liverpool fan, you have to admit that the Premier League would be worse off without him. I truly hope FSG comes to their senses and gives Salah the extension he deserves. The Premier League simply can’t afford to lose a player of his caliber.
