Rishabh Pant Makes a Comeback as BCCI Announce Squad for 1st Test Match vs Bangladesh

26-year-old Rishabh Pant makes a long-awaited comeback to India’s test squad. BCCI have also handed young Pacer Yash Dayal his maiden test call-up.

Rishabh Pant will be making his first test appearance in almost 20 months, following the injuries suffered during a devastating car accident. Furthermore, after impressing in the Duleep trophy, Akash Deep has also earned a test call up. Meanwhile, 26-yesr-old Yash Dayal is also in line for a test debut after being called up. Rohit Sharma leads India, while Virat Kohli and Jasprit Burmah have also received call ups.

Coincidentally, Rishabh Pant last test match came against Bangladesh. He was involved in second and last test against Bangladesh at Mirpur from 22nd December 2022 to 25th December 2022. Only a few days later, Pant met with a road accident, which led to some serious injuries. The swashbuckling batsman only returned to cricketing action during the 2024 IPL. After spending nearly a year and a half on the sidelines, Pant reminded everyone of his immense talent by becoming the leading run-scorer for Delhi Capitals, racking up 446 runs in the tournament. His stellar performances in the IPL earned him a spot in India’s starting XI for the T20 World Cup squad.

While Rishabh Pant has made a long-awaited test return, pacer Mohamed Shami will have to wait for a comeback after being overlooked. India's Test season kicks off with this two-match series against Bangladesh. After the first Test in Chennai, the teams will move to Green Park Stadium in Kanpur for the second Test from September 27 to October 1.

Historically, India has dominated this matchup, winning 11 of the 13 Tests they've played against Bangladesh, with the remaining two ending in draws. However, Bangladesh enters this series on a high, fresh off a historic 2-0 win against Pakistan on their turf. India, on the other hand, will look to build on their momentum from their 4-1 Test series win over England earlier this year.

India's squad for the 1st Test of the Bangladesh Test series: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.
