Pant Fined for Second Over-Rate Offence - DC vs KKR 2024

The last match against KKR was an event of bad news for Delhi Capitals and Rishabh Pant. BCCI imposes a heavy fine for breaching the Code of Conduct.

To understand the whole event and get the crux of the information, it is important to understand the rule. What is an Over Rate rule? In an hour of play, the fielding team bowls an average of eight overs. This is called the over rate.

So what is the penalty for not fulfilling this rule?

Every team, including the impact replacement, will face a fine of INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fee, whichever is less, for failing to start its overs on time a second time during the season.

For the second time in IPL 2024, BCCI found that the Delhi Capitals team had kept a slow over rate. They fined Captain Rishabh Pant and the entire team. In the 16th match of the IPL 2024, DC broke the IPL Code of Conduct by not keeping track of the second-over rate. This happened in Vizag against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

It was ideal for the Delhi Capitals; first, they got defeated badly and lost the match by 106  runs. Second and worst, the team gets to pay the fine, which would impact their performance in the next matches.
