England Wins the First Test - England Tour of India 2024
England won the first test match against the match in the five-test series of the England Tour of India 2024.
One of the greatest test wins, England won the first test by (28) runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. England takes the lead by (1-0) in the five-test series of the England Tour of India.
This victory was important for England, the team won a test series in India in 2012, under the captaincy of Alastair Cook. Team India hadn’t lost a test match in eleven seasons. It was the first defeat at home in test cricket for India.
Hartley played an important part in England bringing India down to their last wicket and forcing a half-hour extension of the day.
India appeared to be in control after gaining a 190-run lead in the first innings, but Pope's epic innings of 196 runs resurrected England, who posted 420 all out in the second innings to come back into the game.
The hosts needed 231 to win the contest. However, slow left-arm bowler Hartley's 7-62 in his debut Test destroyed India, who were all out for 202 in a lengthy final session on the penultimate day.
India captain Rohit Sharma's 39 was the highest score by an Indian hitter in the second innings as the hosts lost 4-24 in a mid-inning collapse.
England ensures that this series does not feel like just another formality for the Indians, as Test series often do when they play at home.
