Jaden Ivey Stretchered Off Following a Serious Lower Leg Injury vs Orlando Magic

The Detroit Pistons couldn’t have imagined a tougher start to 2025 as they now face the aftermath of Jaden Ivey’s concerning lower-leg injury. The 2024/25 season had been a breath of fresh air for the Pistons. After languishing near the league’s bottom for the past four years, they found themselves in the mix for a Play-in spot. However, Ivey’s untimely setback has cast a shadow over what was shaping up to be a season filled with optimism and progress for Detroit.

Detroit Pistons fans held their breath as a harrowing scene unfolded on the court involving Jaden Ivey. Late in the fourth quarter against the Orlando Magic, the 22-year-old guard collided with Cole Anthony, who dove aggressively for a loose ball. The impact sent Ivey sprawling to the floor, clutching his lower leg in agony. The atmosphere in the arena shifted instantly, with players and staff from both teams gathering around the stricken Ivey. Replays revealed Ivey’s ankle rolling awkwardly during the collision, amplifying fears of a severe injury. After several tense moments on the hardwood, Ivey was stretchered off with his leg secured in a splint—an indication that he may have suffered a dislocation, according to medical professionals.

Before this injury, Jaden Ivey was enjoying a breakout season, averaging 17.4 points a game while shooting 39.2% from 3. This form meant that many Pistons fans viewed him as the long-term backcourt partner of franchise superstar, Cade Cunningham. However, this injury has the potential to end Ivey’s breakout season. The timeline of Ivey’s return is still up in the air. But judging by the severity of the injury, it’s understandable that his teammates are concerned. During a post-match interview, Cade expressed the impact Ivey’s injury has had on the group, saying: “It’s tough on the whole group, to see him hurting like that is tough on us. He’s built for it, he’s going to shake back knowing him. He’s going to work his tail off and be better than ever when he gets back. It’s tough for sure."

Despite Ivey’s injury, the Pistons managed to hold onto their lead and close out the game by a scoreline of 105-96. Before his injury, Ivey managed to rack up 22 points and 4 assists in 27 minutes of playing time. With the win the Pistons are 15-18 on the season, already passing last season's win total. Despite the win, all post-game thoughts were with Jaden Ivey. Pistons’ head coach JB Bickerstaff said, “It’s tough. No better teammate, person than JI. No one who cares more about this thing than him. It’s tough to see." Meanwhile, Orlando Magic’s head coach Jamal Mosley offered his thoughts and prayers to the young guard, saying: “You never want to see that happen to anyone. Our thoughts and our prayers are with him, praying it's not as bad as it looked. I pray just for a speedy recovery, whatever the case may be."
