Golden State Warriors Overcome the Dallas Mavericks in Klay Thompson’s Emotional Homecoming

Emotions ran high on the night as one of Bay Area’s most beloved sons came up against them. After an illustrious 14-year career with the Golden State Warriors – in which he clinched four NBA titles – Klay Thompson finally left the Bay Area to join the Dallas Mavericks in the summer. So, it was understandable that Klay’s return to the Chase Center would be emotional.

Before tip-off, emotions ran high as fans watched a tribute video for the 34-year-old guard, who then shared warm embraces with his old teammates. On the court, Klay Thompson didn’t miss a beat, racking up 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. But the night truly belonged to Stephen Curry.  Chef Curry was cooking, as he scored 37 points, while recording 9 assists and 6 rebounds. Moreover, Curry shot 5-of-12 from beyond the arc. This matchup had everything fans could wish for: a vintage Klay performance, a clinical Steph Curry performance, Luka and Kyrie magic, all leading to an edge-of-your-seat finish.

Besides Klay’s 22-point performance, Luka Donic and Kyrie Irving also performed admirably well. Luka finished the match with 31 points, 6 assists and 8 rebounds, while Irving managed to rack up 21 points and six assists. Despite the trio’s best efforts, Steph Curry and the Warriors were just too good for them on the night. Curry’s 37-point performance led the Dubs to a 120-117 win over the Mavs. Curry completely took over in the final four minutes of the game, as he embarked on a personal 10-0 run in the final four minutes.

After the game, Steph’s “Splash Bro” Klay Thompson had some complementary words for his performance. He said, “It hurts to be on the other side of one of his flurries. Guy got hot at the end.” This win has now taken the Warriors’ regular season record to 9-2 – the best in the Western Conference. Additionally, with this win, the Warriors have started their NBA Cup journey on a positive note.

However, things aren’t as rosy for the Dallas Mavericks. Last season’s beaten finalists have started the season in an underwhelming manner. After 11 games, the Mavs have managed to win just five games. As a result, they now languish in the 11th spot of the Western Conference standings, having lost three games on the bounce. Following this defeat, the Mavs don’t have any respite, as their fixtures only get tougher. The Mavs face the San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans, OKC Thunder and Utah Jazz in their next five fixtures. Can Luka Doncic & Co. bounce back from this underwhelming start?
